Who are the Jaycees?
Jaycees are members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce - young adults involved in the community. We are employed in retail business, agriculture, manufacturing, service industries, education - You name
it! Many of us have lived in or around Evansville all of our lives, while others are relatively new in town.
Anyone from 18 through 40 years of age can join our organization, and we welcome guests at any of our regular
membership meetings. The Evansville Jaycees hold meetings at 6:00 pm on the first Monday of every month at local businesses and restaurants.
What the Jaycees do:
Jaycees plan
and participate in a broad range of activities. We are probably best known for
our community development projects. Through these projects we have raised
funds for many different charities, through food booth sales at festivals, glow necklace sales and bowl-a-thons. We provide shoes for needy kids at Christmas, sponsor blood drives, help at youth camps, offer kid card
ID programs, deliver Christmas cards while caroling to nursing home residents, serve food at a soup kitchen, provide needed
items for the homeless, help Habitat build homes, volunteer at Special Olympics events, hold family picnics, membership socials
... and the list goes on.
The Jaycees organization was founded to help young adults learn skills and network
with others to become more successful. In today's world, networking is more important than ever.
We are involved in developing our management abilities too. In the process of planning, running, documenting, and evaluating projects, we gain valuable skills that
will benefit us in future efforts - in or outside of the Jaycees. Our chapter
has won state and national awards for our efforts in this area.
